THE annual 2021 Shenzhen Bougainvillea Show, a long-expected event for citizens, especially flower lovers, officially opened in Lianhua Hill Park in Futian District on Saturday and will run until Dec. 10.

This year’s bougainvillea show includes four key exhibition zones, namely the city garden, exquisite garden, city flower market and future garden.

A total of 270 potted bougainvilleas of different species and bougainvillea-featured works created by 120 horticultural experts and residents are being displayed at the exquisite garden located close to the park’s west gate.

Next to the exquisite garden is the future garden, a new session set up for this year’s flower show, where visitors can admire floral designs jointly created by university students and the park.

The 12 district-level areas in the city, including Dapeng New Area, Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone and Qianhai, created 12 themed gardens for the flower show, which are being displayed in the city garden area located near the park’s east and northeast gates.

The city flower market is located near the park’s southeast gate and Guan Shanyue Art Museum.

During the flower show, visitors can enjoy taking bougainvillea photos, nature education activities, creative performances and shopping at a flea market.

“This year’s exhibition zones have dispersed locations. I visited the future and city gardens. There are more flower species and more diverse designs and decorations compared to last year,” said a visitor surnamed Lin on Saturday.

Initiated in 1999, Shenzhen Bougainvillea Show is also one of the key events for this year’s Park Culture Season that will end in March next year.

Vehicles are banned from parking along the roads around Lianhua Hill Park, including Hongli, Xinzhou, Lianhua and Caitian roads, during the flower show and the park’s parking spots were closed to visitors this month, according to the local traffic authority.

People, however, can take the Metro instead, with the park being close to Metro stations such as Children’s Palace on Lines 3 and 4, and Lianhua West on Line 2.

Another event for the Park Culture Season featuring nature education was held in the park during the weekend. A total of 32 nature education institutions set up their booths in Kite Square for residents to learn more nature knowledge through games and lectures. Children can also purchase nature books at the site.
