2 SZ container ports enter top 10 CPPI list
    2021-11-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN’S Chiwan and Shekou ports ranked third and ninth, respectively, on the global Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) ranking recently released by the World Bank and global information provider IHS Markit.

A total of six Chinese ports have made it to the top 10, namely Chiwan port at third, Guangzhou port at fourth, Kaohsiung port at fifth, Hong Kong port at seventh, Qingdao port at eighth and Shekou port at ninth.

Shenzhen’s Yantian and Dachan Bay ports ranked 29th and 31st, respectively.

IHS Markit ranked the turnover efficiency of 351 container ports around the world based on indicators such as total hours per ship call, defined as the elapsed time between when a ship reaches a port to its departure from the berth having completed its cargo exchange.

Shenzhen Port, located south of the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong Province, consists of several port areas including Shekou, Chiwan, Mawan and Yantian.

Shenzhen has continued to improve port efficiency to enhance its international competitiveness over the years, and has applied 5G, artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies to build smart ports.

On Nov. 14, Mawan port became the first 5G green low-carbon smart port in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The port can handle the world’s largest container ships with an annual design throughput of 3 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units).

Shenzhen Port’s container throughput hit 23.7882 million TEUs between January and October this year, rising 10.68 percent year on year, according to the latest figures. The number of export-laden boxes increased by 11.72 percent to 11.256 million TEUs year on year.  (Zhang Yu)
