THE Ninth Shenzhen International Industrial Design Fair (SZIDF) is scheduled to be held from Wednesday to Friday in Hall 2 of the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Futian District, the Shenzhen Municipal Industry and Information Technology Bureau, the event’s organizer, said at a press conference Friday.

Themed “New Habitats: Design is the new meta discipline,” the round-the-clock online and offline fair will offer attendees an industrial design feast showcasing excellent new ideas from around the world, new designs and industries, and exploring design-driven industrial upgrading possibilities.

Zheng Xuan, an official from the bureau, said at the press conference that Shenzhen has become one of the first national-level industrial design model cities. The fair is expected to further gather global high-end design innovation powers, achieve industrial design’s full potential to develop in multiple fields and highlight Shenzhen as the city of design, Zheng said.

Feng Changhong, president of the Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association, the fair’s co-organizer, said that the 15,000-square-meter venue will have seven areas featuring holistic design services, emerging design brands, international designs and Shenzhen local designs, among others. The fair will also welcome 300 renowned design institutions from home and abroad at the offline venues, as well as exhibit 6,000-plus works from the Netherlands, Turkey, Japan, Denmark, Italy, the U.K. and other countries and regions.

Huawei’s UCD (User-Centered Design) center, genome sequencing company BGI, self-driving solutions provider DeepRoute.ai and several other innovative digital enterprises will display their new technologies, products, materials, models and brands in AI, VR, biomedicine, intelligent home appliances and medical care, beauty treatments and personal care.

Hong Kong and Macao design institutions are also invited to exhibit innovative and smart products that will be influential in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Aside from exhibitions, the fair will also host other events like the Global Design Value Summit forum, Great One Award innovation contest, new product launches, industry matching meetings and a “Design Unlimited” activity via Douyin calling for submissions about creative designs in daily life.

Since the SZIDF was established in 2013, it has been held annually for eight consecutive years and has built a world-class ecological platform for enterprises, design agencies and designers to display, exchange and trade design works, as well as helped a batch of the city’s small-sized design studios transform into globally recognized brands.
