A VIRTUAL economic and trade matchmaking conference was recently held between Shenzhen and Barcelona in Spain, more than one week after the two cities signed a “Sister Cities” agreement Nov. 22.

Barcelona authorities commissioned China Construction Bank (CCB) to organize the meeting under the guidance of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shenzhen Municipal Committee (CCPIT Shenzhen), the Shenzhen Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and Barcelona’s municipal government departments.

At the event, Yao Ren, deputy secretary general of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, and Pau Solanilla Franco, commissioner for City Promotion in Barcelona City Council, delivered speeches to express their expectation for the two cities’ intensive and comprehensive cooperation in trade and investment, transportation and logistics, medical and health service, and cultural communication.

Nearly 10 leading Shenzhen enterprises, including BYD, Shenzhen Airlines and ZTE, and several Barcelonian organizations, such as the Barcelona Port Authority and Ceca Magan Law Firm, actively exchanged their business plans through the virtual meeting.

In another development, CCPIT Shenzhen and CCB signed a strategic cooperation agreement during the meeting, jointly supporting Shenzhen’s international trade to embrace high-quality development.
