Shenzhen Grand Theater’s philharmonic orchestra will present Shostakovich’s “Festive Overture,” Appermont’s “Noah’s Ark” and a few easy-listening pieces, such as “Bohemian Rhapsody” and songs from Adele’s “21” album tomorrow night. “Festive Overture” opens with an exuberant, rising fanfare which transitions to a spritely, lyrical main theme at a breakneck tempo. The overture speeds past, with a brief return to the fanfare figure before an energetic coda.

On Saturday, the orchestra will play Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 3” and Chinese folk songs. “Symphony No. 3,” also known as “Eroica Symphony,” marks the beginning of Beethoven’s innovative middle period in the composer’s career.
