Two Chinese star dancers Xie Xin and Li Xing will present the modern dance show “From In” in Shenzhen this weekend. “From In,” a 29th Germany Hannover International Choreography Competition award-winning piece, was born from an idea that “as human beings, we share memories with each other when we meet at the same moment and in the same space, which creates a special link,” says Xie. The piece, which premiered at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing in 2015, has also been staged at the 48th Kuopio Dance Festival in Finland in early 2017. In 2004, Xie graduated as a modern dancer from the Guangdong Dance School and has worked with contemporary dance theaters including the Guangdong Modern Dance Company, Jin Xing Dance Theater and Beijing Dance LDTX. In 2014, she founded her own studio, Xie Xin Dance Theater. As a choreographer, Xie has won a number of awards, including the gold award at the 14th International Dance Competition in Italy in 2015, and the gold award at the Seoul International Dance Competition in 2016 in South Korea. Li graduated from the College of Military Culture of the People’s Liberation Army National Defense University in 2010. He stayed in the army’s song and dance troupe for a few years before becoming an independent dancer with his own dance studio. He became better known by the country’s followers of dance after taking part in the variety show “Dance Smash” last year. In the final competition, he was edged out by Xie, who also appeared in Li’s dance show “The Hotel” staged in Shenzhen early this month.
