互联网原住民

Meaning:

Translated from the English term “digital natives,” this is a concept first raised by American author Marc Prensky in 2001. In contrast to “digital immigrants,” the “natives” are generations who grow up in an era where the internet is widely used in every aspect of our daily life. This demography, those usually born after the 1990s, is surrounded by digital technology and therefore familiar with smart phones, computers and games. These people are inclined to be multitasking, reading on screens instead of books, and seeking frequent updates of information.

Example:

A: 为什么每年圣诞节,玛丽亚凯莉的歌都重上排行榜首?

Wèishénme měinián shèngdànjiē,mǎlìyà kǎilì de gē dōu chóng shàng páiháng bǎngshǒu?

Why is that song by Mariah Carey always back on top of the Billboard Hot 100 around Christmas each year?

B: 因为互联网原住民习惯在线听歌,而不是像从前一样买一张CD放在家里。

Yīnwèi hùliánwǎng yuánzhùmín xíguàn zàixiàn tīnggē,ér búshì xiàng cóngqián yīyàng mǎi yīzhāng CD fàngzài jiālǐ。

Because the digital natives are used to listening to music online, unlike previous generations who would buy an album for future listening.
