AN eye-catching smart lamppost equipped with a 5G micro base station, a charging pole, traffic lights, surveillance cameras and contactless payment devices caught visitors’ attention as they snapped photos and inquired the manufacturer for cooperation opportunities during the 23rd China Hi-Tech Fair (CHTF), whose offline exhibitions wrapped up yesterday.

The 5G multifunctional intelligent pole, developed by  Shenzhen Minkave Technology Co., was displayed at Hall 4 in the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Futian District.

“The smart pole is more than a lighting equipment. It has tens of application scenarios, including cooperative vehicle infrastructure for automated driving, emergency warning, traffic signal timing optimization, surveillance video shooting, intelligent parking and charging, as well as meteorological and water level monitoring,” Lian Jianxun, general designer of Minkave, said.

“The smart pole is expected to be an efficient data-sharing platform covering the whole city, bringing residents a more intelligent living experience,” he added.

As of now, smart poles made by the company have been installed at many industrial parks in Pingshan, Longgang and Nanshan districts.

Haineng Telecom, Anbang Technology, Zhongdeng Technology and other member firms of the Smart Pole Industry Association of Shenzhen, the country’s first smart pole industrial association, also showcased their latest products at the CHTF.

Shenzhen is one of the country’s first  cities that have launched a citywide multifunctional smart pole project in an effort to build a smart city. It has set up nearly 15,000 intelligent poles across the city, including 800 along Qiaoxiang Road in Nanshan and Futian districts, its first intelligent road, and 300 along Songshanhu Greenway in Guangming District.

The city will have 24,000 smart poles by 2022 and no less than 47,000 smart poles by 2025.
