PHASE II of Shenzhen Outer Ring Expressway, measuring approximately 9.35 kilometers long, was opened to traffic Jan. 1, 2022, New Year’s Day.

The section links Huiyan Expressway, Pingdi and Kengzi in the south and Danzi Boulevard. Trips between Bao’an and Pingshan have been cut to one hour with the section’s operation.

Shenzhen Outer Ring Expressway is designed to be fully covered by a 5G network and multifunctional lampposts have been installed along the operational section for monitoring, commanding and assisting autonomous driving. Based on BeiDou and 5G technologies, authorities can collect and analyze road safety data in real time. There are three interchange overpasses, one service station and three tollgates built along the Phase II section as well. The BeiDou positioning system is also available inside the tunnels.

The 94-kilometer Shenzhen Outer Ring Expressway is comprised of two sections – Shenzhen and Dongguan. The 77-kilometer Shenzhen section is scheduled to link Guangzhou-Shenzhen Riverside Expressway and Bao’an District on the city’s west with Yantian-Baguang Expressway on the city’s east. It passes through the northern subdistricts of Guangming, Longhua, Longgang and Pingshan districts as well as the city of Dongguan.

The Shenzhen section is being built in three phases with the 51-kilometer Phase I operational at the end of 2020 and Phase II operational on New Year’s Day. The 17-kilometer Phase III, which is under construction, will connect Jinxiu Road East in Pingshan and Yantian-Baguang Expressway in the east.
