Viola Villa Ensemble, consisting of viola teachers, graduates and students of Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, will present two nights of classical pieces. The program will include Bach’s “Ciaccona” (arranged by Ichiro Nodaira for four violas), Vivaldi’s “Viola Quartet,” Saint-Saëns’ “Danse Macabre,” Fauré’s “Pavane,” Sarasate’s “Navarra,” Shostakovich’s “Galop” and some Chinese tunes. Led by Central Conservatory of Music professor Wang Shaowu, Viola Villa Ensemble was founded in 2019. Wang studied with the famous violist Matthias Buchholz at the Cologne University of Music in Germany in 2002. He has had over 80 prize-winning students in most of the international and domestic competitions. The students he trained have served as first viola in many famous foreign orchestras, including Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, Banberg Symphony Orchestra, Indiana Symphony Orchestra, among others.
