Hospital green lane helps woman deliver twins safely
    2022-01-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

FUTIAN District opened a green channel to help a pregnant mother safely deliver her twins in Peking University Shenzhen Hospital on Sunday amid the latest wave of COVID-19 cases in the city, Shenzhen Evening News reported.

The pregnant woman’s husband, surnamed Chen, was required to stay home for quarantine after the city reported two locally transmitted COVID-19 cases Friday.

Chen was most concerned about whether his 38-week-pregnant wife, surnamed Si, who was due to give birth Jan. 11, would be affected by his quarantine.

At that time, staffers from Xiang’an Community in Xiangmihu Subdistrict learned about Chen’s case during their investigation on key risk persons Saturday and reported it to their superiors.

Futian District authorities immediately opened a green channel for the pregnant woman and notified related departments to collaborate to ensure her safety.

The community staffers worked out a response plan, sending medical protective suits to Chen’s home and closely following his wife's situation.

Doctors from Peking University Shenzhen Hospital advised Si to head to the hospital as soon as possible because one of her babies was in a transverse lie (horizontal) and the risk of COVID-19 rose in the city.

At 12:30 p.m. Sunday, designated staff went to Chen’s home to help his wife take a nucleic acid test, and at around 4 p.m. the same day when Si’s test result came out, Si was instantly escorted to the hospital via the green channel.

At 6:19 p.m., Si successfully delivered her twins. “They are too little when I first saw them. I felt so lucky and happy to have them around,” she said.

Although it was a pity for Si that her husband wasn’t present during the childbirth, Si suggested that the medical workers’ care gave her lots of comfort, and she told her family members to not worry.

At present, Si and her twin infants are in good health in the hospital, and they are expected to be discharged from hospital today, said the report.
