Holiday travel season starts amid COVID controls

SHENZHEN’S transport terminals hope for a safe and stable Spring Festival travel season that officially started yesterday by implementing strict COVID-19 measures and improving its services.

At 6:40 a.m., train G2790 left Shenzhen Railway Station for Shanghai’s Hongqiao Station, marking the start of the station’s Spring Festival travel season. The transport season will last till Feb. 25.

“I am excited to take the high-speed train to my hometown in Ganzhou from Luohu. Now, I don’t need to go to the North Railway Station for the high-speed train,” a passenger surnamed Wang said.

Shenzhen Railway Station will operate 120.5 pairs of trains a day, including 18 pairs running along the Ganzhou-Shenzhen High Speed Railway, which will greatly cut the trips between Shenzhen and Jiangxi Province and East China cities. During the 25-day post festival period, the railway station will operate 132.5 pairs of trains a day.

The railway station has set up DIY courier lockers at the safety check areas, and these lockers are for passengers to consign items banned from boarding for delivery to their destinations.

The station has also installed 21 COVID-19 information dispensers to improve its efficiency for nucleic acid tests. The dispensers can show health codes and nucleic acid test results after passengers scan their ID cards or passports. In addition, the station has installed mask dispensers at its entrances, exits and waiting halls, where passengers can scan a QR code to get masks.

Meanwhile, at Shenzhen North Railway Station, train D376 left for Lianyungang at 6:32 a.m. yesterday, marking the start of the station’s Spring Festival travel season.

During this period, the station will operate 285 pairs of trains a day, 24 pairs more year on year, including 43 pairs running along the Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-Speed Railway.

Shenzhen’s railway stations reminded passengers to take personal precautions against COVID-19 during their travels and follow the stations’ prevention and control measures.

The railway stations undergo regular disinfection on trains and require employees to take regular nucleic acid tests.

In another development, bus terminals across the city, except those in Luohu, Longgang and Pingshan, have resumed services starting from yesterday, on the premise of implementing strict COVID-19 measures.
