Shenzhen clears all at-risk areas for COVID-19

A travel history record with an asterisk indicates that there are currently medium- or high-risk areas in the city a person has visited in the last 14 days, but it does not imply that the person has visited these specific areas.

The asterisk, which serves only as a reminder and is not related to a person’s health status, will be removed when these medium- or high-risk areas are adjusted to low risk, according to CAICT.

If an asterisk appears next to a person’s travel history record, it is recommended that the person learn his or her destination’s travel policies in advance before traveling and decide whether to continue traveling based on the destination’s epidemic prevention management requirements, which may include isolation at home for health monitoring.

Shenzhen residents were thrilled to learn that their travel history records no longer had an asterisk.

One netizen commented “Shenzhen Speed, so powerful” in one post on the WeChat account of the city’s health commission yesterday, which has garnered 20,000 likes. Another netizen commented: “Congratulations to Shenzhen citizens who have adhered to epidemic control measures since the outbreak, and thanks to the medical workers and frontline community workers.”

“I’m very glad that Shenzhen is at low risk for COVID again. We can enjoy the Spring Festival holiday and have some fun,” said Yun Soo-hee, a South Korean expat who has been living in Shenzhen for about 20 years.

“The removal of asterisk doesn’t mean you should remove the mask, and low risk doesn’t mean zero risk,” Feng Tiejian, deputy director of the Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said yesterday.
