ENTERPRISES accredited by Guangming District as synthetic biology, technology-based or growth-type enterprises can benefit from a raft of supporting policies, according to the district government open day event held by the district’s administrative service data management bureau yesterday.

The open house focused on the interpretation of the interim measures related to these enterprises’ accreditation.

Guangming District released the measures on the accreditation and management of synthetic biology enterprises in December last year. According to Zhao Caixia, vice director of the district’s science, technology and innovation bureau, the accredited enterprises’ main business needs to fall in three main categories, namely synthetic biotechnology R&D, synthetic biotechnology application and supporting fields in the industry.

At the same time, the enterprises need to meet relevant requirements regarding economic benefits or R&D input, R&D personnel and transformation capacity. Enterprises that are accredited as synthetic biology enterprises can enjoy the district’s supporting measures that cover four main areas with a total of 22 detailed measures.

According to Zhao, the bureau has currently accredited a total of 14 enterprises in two batches as synthetic biology enterprises. The first batch had nine enterprises, while the second batch had five. The enterprises’ estimated value is around 8.2 billion yuan (US$1.22 billion).

Guangming District released the interim measures on the accreditation and management of technology-based and growth-type enterprises earlier this year.

According to Xiang Xiaosi, an official from the bureau, most policies for technology enterprises in Guangming are focused on technology-based SMEs, national high-tech enterprises and unicorn enterprises, which have not yet formed a gradient enterprise cultivation system. The newly released measures focus more on enterprises’ innovation and growth indexes.

Technology-based enterprises accredited for the first time will be given a one-time award of 300,000 yuan, and growth-type enterprises accredited for the first time will be given a one-off award ranging from 600,000 to 800,000 yuan.

For technology-based and growth-type enterprises that are still in the valid accreditation period, Guangming District will also grant an annual subsidy of 10%-15% of the enterprises’ additional R&D investment compared with the previous year and the maximum amount of such subsidy for each enterprise ranges from 500,000 to 1 million yuan.
