OVER 170 students in Futian District sat for the senior high school entrance examination, or zhongkao, at quarantine hotels or other quarantine backup exam venues yesterday, the exam’s first day, amid the city’s restrictions to quell the latest pandemic flare-up.

According to the rules, close and secondary contacts of COVID positive cases were arranged to sit the exam at Calais Hotel, the exam’s designated quarantine hotel site.

Others who are under centralized or home quarantine or live in either lockdown or control areas in Futian were arranged to sit the exam at the Second Affiliated Elementary School of SFAES (Shenzhen Futian Academy of Educational Sciences), the district’s designated quarantine exam site.

Each subdistrict is responsible for transporting these students to their exam venues.

Students whose original test venues are in lockdown or control areas were arranged to attend the exam at the backup exam venue in Futian’s Huaqiang Vocational and Technical School.

Futian District Education Bureau also launched a 24-hour hotline, 0755-82918355, for  inquires.

Shenzhen has set up a total of 33 special zhongkao sites across the city, including 10 quarantine hotels, 11 quarantine exam sites, 11 backup exam venues and one at Shenzhen Third People’s Hospital for affected students.

Shenzhen traffic police officers were also sent on the streets across the city to ensure safe and smooth traffic on the first day. In addition, nearly 3,500 taxis provided free services for zhongkao takers.

Around 112,000 students are taking part in the city’s zhongkao, which will end tomorrow. The enrollment rate of general senior high school this year will exceed 70%, according to the city’s education authority.
