THE depot for Metro Line 12, the largest Metro train parking garage currently under construction, will be put into use before the end of this year.

Chiwan Depot, located near Zuopaotai Station, covers 241,000 square meters or equivalent to 34 standard football pitches and can accommodate 40 trains, the Shenzhen Municipal Transport Bureau said at its official WeChat account yesterday.

The depot has recently completed its electricity-loaded tests, a milestone for its operation before the end of this year and in time with Line 12’s operation.

The 40.6-kilometer Line 12, a trunk line for the development of western Shenzhen, connects Zuopaotai Station at the south of Nanshan and Waterlands Resort East Station in Bao’an. The line passes through Nanshan and Bao’an’s CBD, Fuyong, greater airport and World Exhibition and Convention Center areas. It is dubbed as the king of interchange stations, with 18 of its 33 stations being interchange ones.

So far, 97% of the civil engineering work and 87% of post-station projects such as machine operation and maintenance, water supply and discharge, telecommunication and signals, and nearby road restoration and reforestation have been completed, according to the bureau.
