NANSHAN police, in cooperation with Shenzhen Customs, recently arrested 30 suspects in a series of smuggling cases involving products from Hong Kong to the mainland.

In an announcement yesterday at Nanshan District Public Security Subbureau’s WeChat account, Nanshan police said the main suspect surnamed Chen, 31, head of a courier service company’s express delivery station, conspired with sellers in Hong Kong and hired inbound truck drivers to smuggle the products to Shenzhen.

After the Hong Kong drivers entered the checkpoints’ integrated transfer stations, which were put under closed-loop management for COVID-19 prevention and control and were designated as rest areas for inbound drivers, they handed the smuggled goods to the station’s temporary workers, who then transferred them to couriers and takeout delivery workers. The couriers mailed the items to the buyers or online shops, according to the police.

The suspects have been put under investigation for smuggling and obstructing prevention and control of infectious diseases.
