THE 2nd Chief Intellectual Property Officer (CIPO) Forum (Futian, Shenzhen) kicked off yesterday at Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Science and Technology Park to spotlight international innovation and development of intellectual property rights (IPR) in the new economic era.

A ceremony was also held during the forum yesterday morning to unveil Futian District IPR Protection Center and an IPR one-stop service counter.

Over 20 experts from the intellectual property industry shared their views on topics including CIPO’s role in promoting international innovation, CIPO operation and the function of CIPO in enterprises during the two-day forum that will wrap up today.

Zhou Jiangtao, head of the Futian District Government, suggested that the purpose of the forum is to build a platform for academics and experts in the intellectual property industry to share ideas.

IPR protection plays an important role in promoting inventions, applications of scientific and technological achievements and high-quality economic and social development.

After the first CIPO Forum, more and more companies, especially high-tech companies in Shenzhen, have set up or planned to set up a CIPO position to enhance its market competitiveness, according to Ouyang Huiyu, deputy head of the Futian District Government.
