Wang Jingli wangjingli0715@163.com SHENZHEN Meteorological Observatory upgraded the alert level for Typhoon Mulan from blue to yellow in Luohu, Nanshan, Futian, Yantian, Dapeng, western and eastern sea areas as well as six subdistricts in Bao’an at 6:30 p.m. yesterday. The city government also activated a Grade-III emergency response as the seventh typhoon of this year was approaching the country’s southern coastal areas yesterday. All the parks in Shenzhen have been closed pending further notice. A new round of strong rainfall along with thunderstorms will continue until tomorrow, according to the observatory. Wind gusts might reach levels 8 to 10, and heavy rains will let up tomorrow. Citizens are advised to remember to bring an umbrella when going out and stay away from dangerous areas such as rivers, low-lying flood-prone areas, slopes, retaining walls and old houses. Guangdong has a five-tier, color-coded typhoon warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow, blue and white. |
