THE 2022 South China Book Festival will take place online from Friday to Aug. 28, with subvenues set up in Shenzhen Book City’s six major stores, according to Shenzhen Publishing Group, the subvenues’ organizer.

This year’s book festival will launch 70 online and offline reading and cultural activities such as new book releases, summer camps and parent-child cultural lectures to ignite Shenzhen readers’ enthusiasm.

Themed book exhibitions focusing on the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) will be set up in the subvenues.

Meanwhile, 120 kinds of classics and best-selling Party history books will be launched during the festival.

Each Shenzhen subvenue will take on a “reading+” feature, carrying out cultural activities with different characteristics.

For instance, Shenzhen Book City CBD store will highlight reading and parent-child themed activities and join hands with CITIC Press Group’s children’s book division to create an immersive picture book themed exhibition.

Summer camps featuring general science popularization and space exploration will also be staged for children.

Shenzhen Book City’s Longhua and Longgang stores will accentuate “reading+art” and “reading+technology” in their activities, respectively, while inviting famous cultural figures and writers to interact with readers.

During the book festival, Shenzhen Book City Luohu Store will launch an event in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland, set up several themed book booths and carry out Shenzhen-Hong Kong themed cultural activities.

In Shenzhen Book City Nanshan Store, four themed summer camps will be staged for young readers, leading parents and children to get close to nature and visit science popularization education bases.

The South China Book Festival, mainly targeted at youngsters, was first held in Guangzhou in 1993.

This year’s festival will present over 10 million kinds of books, invite over 950 cultural celebrities, and hold 1,263 cultural activities across the province.
