SHENZHEN is forging ahead with and accelerating the construction of five major transport hubs in Futian District to enhance the city’s integration and connectivity, according to the 14th Five-year Plan for Futian Transportation released by the municipal transport bureau Tuesday.

Among the five major transport hubs, the Huanggang Checkpoint Comprehensive Transport Hub, which is currently under renovation, will handle 200,000 border-crossing travelers a day. It will integrate two intercity rails, the Metro and other public transport services. Another hub, the Gangxia North Transport Hub, will be put into use before the end of the year, offering transfers for Metro Line 10. Transfers for Line 2 with Line 14 is scheduled to open before the end of the year, and transfer for Phase II of the under-construction Line 11 will be put into use by 2025.

The Huangmugang Comprehensive Transport Hub will be put into operation before the end of the year, offering exchanges between Metro lines 7 and 14 and the future Line 24. The Chegongmiao Transport Hub is nearing completion with seven viaducts having already opened to traffic. Chegongmiao Station, which is part of the hub, is one of the city’s Metro stations that offers four-line interchanges. The Xiangmihu Overpass project will be completed before the end of this year.

In a move to build Futian into a pioneering district in transportation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the city will start the construction of the Qianhai-Huanggang section of Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen Intercity Railway, the feasibility study on Shenzhen-Shenshan Intercity Railway, the planning on Guangzhou-Shenzhen Central Axis Intercity Railway, and the feasibility study on the magnetic levitation high-speed railway, as well as the railway link between Shenzhen-Shenshan Intercity Railway and Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-speed Railway, as per the plan.

The Qianhai-Huanggang section will run 21.1 kilometers, passing Nanshan and Futian districts, according to a plan released by Shenzhen Planning and Natural Resources Bureau earlier.

The section has a designed speed of 160 kilometers per hour and has two stations, namely Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base Station in Nanshan District and Huanggang Checkpoint Station in Futian District. The two stations will be connected with Metro lines and other intercity rails to form comprehensive transport hubs.

By 2025, the commuting time of 80% of Futian District’s working population will be cut down to 30 minutes from the 45 minutes in 2019. Public transport will account for 85% of the total mode of transport in the area. And 65% of the commuters in the district can access Metro stations within 10 minutes’ walk.

In slow traffic areas, the district will implement a plan to build a bicycle passage linking it with Longhua District. When improving the slow traffic areas along Shennan Boulevard and Jintian and Xinzhou roads, Futian will intensify its bicycle lane networks and expand lanes for pedestrians. The district will also start planning on aerial corridors by building five east-west and five north-south ecological corridors for leisure and slow traffic.
