China’s Ministry of Commerce Sunday said it firmly opposes Canada’s divestment order on Chinese companies as Canada’s government is using “national security” as a pretext.

In a statement, the commerce ministry said it urged Canada to stop politicizing economic and trade issues and said it will take the necessary steps to safeguard the rights and interests of Chinese companies.

Canada ordered three Chinese companies Wednesday to divest their investments in three of Canadian lithium mining companies, citing “national security.”

报道中的divest就是“撤资”，即“出售或处置子公司或其他投资”，名词是divestment，和invest/investment (投资)对应。
