THE Cross-Strait Young Maker Forum was held yesterday morning at the Sino-Finnish Design Park to deepen the exchange of cross-Strait makers and better build the Cross-Strait Young Entrepreneur Center.

The event, themed “Cross-Strait Focus,” was held both online and offline, gathering excellent young makers from Taiwan and the mainland. It was guided by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Shenzhen Municipal Government and organized by the Sino-Finnish Park’s Cross-Strait Young Entrepreneur Center.

Chen Jie, general manager of the Sino-Finnish Design Park, delivered a speech centered on three keywords: innovation, focus and fission. She said that building a service station for cross-strait youth innovation and entrepreneurship and gathering the power of innovation has been the focus of the park’s Cross-Strait Young Entrepreneur Center.

The forum aimed at gathering cross-Strait makers’ achievements in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship to provide new directions for innovation and entrepreneurship, Chen said.

Yang Li, vice director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, said that design goes through three phases. “In the first phase, design is a product highlight, like makeup. In the second phase, design makes enterprises stronger, like healthcare products. Currently, design has become a basic and key innovative part of a product. Innovation is not just about high tech, nor about academia. It’s more about changing the way of doing things and doing things in a better way,” Yang said.

Chiu Yihsiang, founder of SonicMEMS (Shenzhen) Technology Co., shared his entrepreneurial experience on aluminum nitride (AlN) ultrasonic transducer. The startup is dedicated to the research and commercialization of MEMS piezoelectric micromachined ultrasonic transducer (PMUT). It’s one of the few innovative companies in China that can realize mass production and sales of AlN pMUT eight-inch wafers.

Chiu, who has 16 years’ experience in semiconductor R&D, mentioned that one of the big advantages of starting a business on the Chinese mainland is that there are many innovation and entrepreneurship competitions. Taiwan makers need to make good use of the resources here for their business startup.

Yeh Weichih, CEO of AIMORE, shared his experience on the preparation before starting a business, precautions during the startup period, business development, entrepreneurial mentality and other aspects. Before starting up his own business, Yeh had worked for renowned semiconductor chip design companies including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Yeh came to start a business on the Chinese mainland in 2010, and he gave a thumbs-up to the government’s strong support for startup companies on the mainland.
