BEIJING, Chengdu, Shanghai, Suzhou, Nanjing, Fuzhou and Changsha allow electric bikes as long as riders obtain a license from police authorities.

Electric bikes are banned in Taiyuan, Guangzhou, Haikou and Wenzhou cities.

Guangzhou was approved by the Guangdong provincial authority for restricting electric bikes from November 2006.

In Zhuhai, electric bikes have been banned from the road since May 28, 2005.
