Chile miner film

    A Hollywood company owned by movie star Brad Pitt is in talks for film rights to the story of 33 miners rescued after surviving two months trapped deep underground in Chile.

    A lawyer for the miners told the daily El Mercurio that 46-year-old Pitt’s “Plan B” Entertainment Company made a multi-million-dollar offer to win the rights to make the film.

    Entertainer of the year

    The Country Music Association Awards were Miranda Lambert’s and Blake Shelton’s party, but Brad Paisley crashed the festivities*. Paisley won the coveted* trophy* at the awards presentation last Wednesday night. He had been nominated every year for the award since 2005 but went away empty handed.

    Songwriter of the year

    Taylor Swift was named country songwriter of the year at the BMI Awards last Tuesday night, becoming the youngest person to win the award at age 20.

    She also won country song of the year with co-writer Liz Rose for “You Belong to Me.” She’s the first songwriter to win that award three years in a row*.

    Jessica Simpson engaged

    U.S. singer Jessica Simpson was engaged to former NFL player Eric Johnson.

    The announcement comes less than two weeks after Simpson’s former husband and “Newlyweds” co-star Nick Lachey announced his engagement to longtime girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo. (SD-Agencies)
