Shenzhen junior English journalists write about their memorable interview experiences
    2010-11-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    The marvelous Chinese Wall

    邓楚然 深圳实验小学五年级(4)班

Standing near the back gate of Shenzhen Experimental Primary School, I saw a special newly-created wall, called the Chinese Wall, which looks like a time tunnel illustrating 5,000 years of Chinese history.

Our excellent teachers made every effort to create the magnificent wall, which tells us the historic achievements and the past dynasties, such as the marvelous achievements of Qin Shihuang and Han Wudi, the great prosperity of the Tang and Song dynasties and the decline of the Qing Dynasty.

Although in the past 100 years, Chinese people have suffered pain and humiliation, they showed their iron will and unbending spirit. Thanks to the reform and opening-up policy, our country has become more and more prosperous in the past 30 years.

During the evolution of civilization, there emerged many outstanding figures, such as the great historian Sima Qian, scientists Zu Chongzhi and Zhang Heng, the inventor of paper Cai Lun and the Great Saint Confucius. They all added bright color to Chinese history with their wisdom and effort.

I noticed that the last part of the Chinese Wall was still blank. To my understanding, it is for our generation to carve on it. Although the Chinese Wall is now ended, history will not stop here. It’s up to us to create a splendid future.

Sports meeting held in our school

On November 18, our school held the annual sports meeting. We junior English reporters had a chance to conduct interviews in our own school.

The opening ceremony was really amazing. Each class dressed in their creative DIY T-shirts shouted encouraging slogans and made different formations.

After the ceremony, under the guidance of Miss Jia, our teacher from Shenzhen junior English journalist program, we began our interviews.

First we interviewed our president Su. He spoke highly of the students’ high spirits and sent his best wishes. Then Miss Li, director of the publicity department, told us: “The sports meet is becoming more and more wonderful. The theme of the sports is to develop and expand sportsmanship.” She hoped students could do more exercise.

It was the most memorable day during the sports meeting and I felt so proud of being a junior journalist.

    Interviewing a senior teacher

    纪安庆泽 黄埔中学初三(5)班

On the afternoon of November 21, we junior English journalists had a precious chance to interview Mr. Zhao Zhixiang, deputy director of the teaching and research section of the Shenzhen Education Bureau and a senior teacher, in Shenzhen Book City CBD store.

Mr. Zhao is a household name in education circles and is also famous for reciting couplets.

First, Mr. Zhao gave us a brief speech on the Chinese education system, and then we began our interview. I was curious and brave enough to ask the first question: “Recently there was news that some articles by Lu Xun would be deleted from high school textbooks. What do you think of it?”

Mr. Zhao said Lu Xun’s articles had become a part of the Chinese spirit and they should not be forgotten.

Then we picked up some hot topics on Chinese culture such as Internet novels, traditional Chinese works and Shenzhen’s Reading Month.

Through the interview I learned a lot.
