Wang Yuanyuan The city’s first on-campus English radio station was launched at Zhulin Primary School in Futian District on Monday. The radio station would broadcast important local news published in the Shenzhen Daily and campus news reported by Shenzhen junior English journalists every day from November 22 to 26, English Week at the school, and once a week from then on, said Jiang Yun, chief editor of the city’s junior English journalist program. The radio broadcasters are the junior journalists at the school under the guidance of the school’s English teachers. The purpose of the radio station was to help students learn more about society and journalism and improve their English skills through interviews, Jiang said. Five students also received online library cards for their achievements in English learning. More English radio stations would be launched at primary and middle schools in the future, Jiang said. The junior journalist program was launched last year and more than 1,000 students became student reporters. They had participated in reporting major events in the country, including the Shanghai Expo, Guangzhou Asian Games and promotion activities for the 2011 Universiade in Shenzhen. They have also contributed articles for the weekly campus edition of the Shenzhen Daily, Yes Teens!. |
