2010's top Twitter trends: Surprisingly sporty
    2010-12-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Twitter网站年度十大热点 墨西哥湾漏油事件居首

If it involved the World Cup, it was popular on Twitter in 2010.

According to Twitter's list of the year's top trends, nobody could stop talking about soccer's biggest event. "FIFA World Cup" took second place for the year, with noisemaking "Vuvuzela" and psychic octopus "Pulpo Paul" taking two other spots in the top 10.

What was the top trending term all year? The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. That's a surprisingly serious topic that gives us hope as we trudge* through seemingly mindless* tweets every day. And Justin Bieber only took eighth place on Twitter this year? Better step up your game, kid. Luckily, he was still the top person trending on the site.

The top 10 trends are:

1. Gulf Oil Spill

2. FIFA World Cup

3. Inception

4. Haiti Earthquake

5. Vuvuzela

6. Apple iPad

7. Google Android

8. Justin Bieber

9. Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows

10. Pulpo Paul

trudge 跋涉
