Junior English journalist wins regional title of a national speech contest
    2011-01-05  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

        林小茵 华侨城小学 六年级

On December 29, 2010, the regional final of the 21st Century Cup speech competition for primary school students was conducted in Shenzhen. There were 15 contestants, but only two would go to the next round of the national competition in Wuhan.

As a junior English reporter, I have conducted interviews in all kinds of situations, so I was ready for this occasion and the stage felt like home to me.

Primary school students have to prepare a speech related to the topic, The Color of My Life. As I started to present my speech, it seemed the whole room went quiet, listening to my speech. My head was empty, but in a good way. I thought: this is my time to shine and I have to grab this opportunity.

After I finished, I heard the sound of success: warm applause from the audience.

I had practiced it more than a million times and I won a special prize — the regional 21st Century Cup English competition championship! I want to thank my teachers and my mom who all helped me to improve my speech. I’m going to work harder to prepare for the national finals. On August 12, the Universiade will be held in Shenzhen. I’ll use my warmest smile to welcome guests from all over the world.
