Swift, Gyllenhaal break up

Singer Taylor Swift and actor Jake Gyllenhaal are starting 2011 single.

“They’re over,” a source tells People magazine about the short-lived relationship. “It ended last month.” No reason was given for the split. The two spent the holidays and their birthdays apart.

Cannes film fest

Robert De Niro will head the jury* at this year’s Cannes International Film Festival. The veteran* American actor and director will lead a nine-member jury for the May 11-22 festival. De Niro’s charisma* may provide a Hollywood boost to Cannes. Last year’s festival was lighter than usual on star power and featured a lineup* that left many critics unimpressed.

Rihanna equals Elvis record

R&B singer Rihanna took the pop music charts by storm last week with a No. 1 single, album and two other songs in the charts.

The Official Charts Company said on Sunday the Barbadian singer had rewritten the record books becoming first female solo artist in chart history to achieve five number-one singles in consecutive* years. The only other solo artist to equal this achievement was Elvis Presley in the 1950s, it said.

Team Beckham can soon expect another player.
