Volunteers, highlights of the Asian Games
    2011-01-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    陈汉国 广州市白云区增槎路松北球场直街33号

Believe it or not, I have been a volunteer in Shenzhen many times, be it for the old people’s home, the mangrove reserve or kindergartens. This time I am extremely proud to share my recent experience of being a volunteer for the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou.

Perhaps you merely focused on the splendor of the opening ceremony or the excitement of the games in front of the silver screen. But did you notice the volunteers?

I found it very interesting to be a guide and helper, or “GPS navigator” for people from all over the world. Sometimes, it was a memorable moment to direct foreigners to their destinations and interpret for them. Sometimes, it was quite tiring and tedious to stand for hours without water or food.

However, at the thought of the success of the Asian Games or the smiles of passers-by, I found all the pain was worth it.
