Hi-tech product exports increase steadily

    IMPORTS and exports of high technology products increased steadily in 2010 compared with the previous two years.

    According to Customs’ statistics, the total import-export volume of high technology products from January to December was about US$6.58 billion, increasing by 28.4 percent compared with 2009. Among these, the export volume increased for the third year in a row to US$3.25 billion, 18.7 percent more than 2009, while the import volume was US$3.33 billion, increasing by 39.5 percent over 2009.

    State-owned companies played a leading role in the increases, while exports by foreign companies decreased slightly compared with the previous year. The export volumes for foreign, State-owned and private companies were US$1.99 billion, US$675 million and US$583 million respectively, accounting for 61.2 percent, 20.8 percent and 18 percent of the total volume respectively. Compared with 2009, the export contribution by foreign companies decreased by 5.1 percent, while the export contribution by State-owned companies increased by 4.6 percent. Meanwhile, the import volume of State-owned companies was US$1.25 billion, increasing by 197 percent.

    Moreover, more than 40 percent of the exports were to new markets, while most of the imports were from Japan and South Korea. Exports of key products, such as LCD television sets, increased sharply, while 90 percent of the exports were from key companies, such as Hisense and Haier.
