 THE top 10 people in Qingdao who had impressed the city with their stories were announced at a ceremony for the “Moving Qingdao 2010” program Jan. 20. According to the votes, the 10 people were Yu Xiuzhen, a woman devoted to charity work, Wang Jianming, a sign language teacher, Wang Chunmei, a woman who has served a daily help hotline for 11 years, Lu Gangjun, a bus driver, Zhu Baoying, a farmer who donated a kidney to his stepson, Zhang Ji, a policeman, Li Peng, a volunteer in Africa, Yang Yuhuan, a cleaner who carries his son to school every day, Lin Fengqian, a man who has funded the education of the sons of a blind couple for more than 10 years, and Sheng rujin, a primary school pupil who was supporting his family. Three organizations were also awarded at the ceremony. “I have not left any valuables for my son, but I want him to pass on my love for charity and keep doing it from generation to generation,” Yu Xiuzhen said at the ceremony. “I did only what a mother should do. It is not me who impressed the city, but it is the city that impressed me,” Yang Yuhuan also said after receiving the award.
