QINGDAO will spend 1 billion yuan this year to encourage 140 companies to reduce energy consumption as well as accelerate the construction of 24 model projects in energy consumption reduction.

    The companies will also be encouraged to take the initiative to reduce pollution discharge in daily production.

    The city expects 3 billion yuan in profit by reducing the energy consumption.

    Qingdao’s per 10,000-yuan GDP energy consumption is 0.77 tons, a relatively low national level. However, the existing accelerating industrial development has made reducing energy consumption in industry an important task.

    The city is striving to achieve clean production in at least 60 percent of companies in the next five years.
