DEEP in Laoshan Mountain was the province’s biggest orchid base founded by Zhang Yingnan and his wife — Laoshan Orchid Garden —- with the largest number and varieties of orchids in Shandong Province.

    Born in Shandong, Zhang Yingnan and his wife went to Qingdao from Qinghai Province 10 years ago and established the garden, hoping to grow the expensive flowers for the average person. After Zhang died, his 64-year-old wife Xu Guilan continued to grow the flowers.

    Nearly 1,000 pots of orchids were grown in the greenhouse. They also bred new varieties, attracting many orchid enthusiasts.
