Yacht becomes ‘Chinese dragon’
    2011-03-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE yacht “Qingdao” revealed a new image for the Clipper 11-12 Round the World Yacht Race recently with a new design of “Chinese dragon.”

According to Lin Zhiwei, chairman of the city’s association for sailing sports, the new image was selected from several designs including facial makeup in Beijing opera, the tale of carp jumping over a dragon gate, Chinese porcelain and the peony.

“We eventually chose the dragon because it is our totem, representing luck and success. Meanwhile, as a sailor, we need to have the dragon’s spirit when racing at sea. I am sure people will find the dragon is more powerful than ever because it is a dragon from the East Sea,” Lin said.

The color of the yacht was white in previous competitions, but it is now purple. “According to tradition, purple is the color of the King,” he said.
