Wang Yuanyuan A Senior 2 student from Shenzhen International Foundation College won the first prize at the city’s first competition for school uniform design which was held on Sunday. Lin Mengyao, 15, also won the “Principals’ Most Popular Design Award” at the competition and her design might be used as the school’s uniform in the future, becoming the country’s first school uniform which was designed by students. “I’m very happy and proud to win the competition. I put a lot of thoughts in the design, hoping to bring out Shenzhen students’ passion, youthfulness and fashion taste,” Lin said. Lin received 2,000 yuan (US$308) in cash and 100 yuan of KFC coupons as awards. Organized by the KFC, the competition was the city’s first school uniform design competition held among students. All the entries were designed by college and middle school students in the city and were showcased by student models on the runway*, said Zhao Wenxin, general manager of the KFC Shenzhen branch. A total of 12 students’ designs were in the final competition, including traditional Chinese tunic* suits, Scottish skirts and fashionable designs in Japanese, South Korean and U.S. styles. Among all designs, the Chinese tunic suits by a Senior 2 student from Shenzhen Senior High School became the runway star. “I think the tunic suits and skirts in the 1930s are the most classic clothes in Chinese design, representing the academic and young spirit of the youth. I believe only the classic and elegant things can remain long in people’s heart in a world like this,” Yang Yunshan, designer of the traditional Chinese uniform. The competition was launched in January, receiving 224 applications from Shenzhen students. More than 2,000 students in the city joined in the online voting. The organizer also recruited 24 student models to present the designs at the fashion show held in Central Walk Shopping Mall in Futian District on Sunday. |
