Wang Yuanyuan More than 200 teachers and education experts attended a forum organized by the Collage Board of the United States on Sunday at Cuiyuan Middle School in Luohu District, aiming to improve the Advanced Placement (AP) education in China. Officials and experts from the Collage Board, the world’s biggest examination organization from the United States, were invited to give speeches at the forum and training would also be given to AP teachers in the city, said Wang Xiangbo, vice president of the Collage Board in Asia. The world-recognized curriculum* AP program provides university courses open in high schools in the United States, paving the way for students who want to study in top U.S. universities. It offers a total of 37 courses and exams in 22 subjects including English, mathematics, computer science, history, music and arts. High school students can take some of the first- and second-year university courses and the AP credits they earn can be transferred to university credits so that one year time of study could be reduced in the university. Cuiyuan Middle School was the first and only school in the city to hold the examinations authorized by the College Board. Their first class for the program opened on September 1, 2009. Other schools, such as Shenzhen Middle School and Shenzhen Foreign Languages School, also opened the courses to students. |
