    2011-03-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

QINGDAO plans to invest 120 million yuan (US$18.3m) to add 100 hectares of green areas to the city this year, planting 7,000 landscape trees and 10,000 street trees.

The new green areas will be mainly in 35 spots in all seven districts, including four in Shinan District, one in Shibei District, seven in Sifang District, six in Lichang District, three in Laoshan District, four in Chengyang District and six in Huangdao District. Newly added greenery in other areas such as Jiaonan, Jiaozhou and Jimo cities, will reach 413,000 square meters.

The 7,000 landscape trees, in 40 types such as maple, ginkgo and flowering cherry, will be planted in downtown areas and Laoshan District.

The 10,000 street trees will be planted along the main streets in the city.

The city will also increase 2,260 hectares of woodland this year.

More than 620 hectares will be planted along the Qingdao-Weihai Highway, Weihai-Laizhou Highway and Jinan-Qingdao Highway, while trees will be planted on the barren hills around the cities.

The city will also build more plant and flower bases in scenic areas and forest parks.
