Campaign launched to embrace Games
    2011-03-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    Wang Yuanyuan

A campaign to embrace the Shenzhen Universiade was launched on Thursday, aiming to encourage students and teachers to contribute to the event.

All students and teachers are encouraged to show civic pride and participate in voluntary work and give suggestions for the Universiade. Those who make notable efforts to the event can receive a small, colored medal, according to the city’s Education Bureau.

The more medals a student or a teacher receives, the more easily he/she can win awards for outstanding student/teacher of the year, the bureau said. The campaign will end in September.

A series of activities will be held, including painting, speaking, writing and singing competitions. Details of these events are not released.

Students also took vows at the launching ceremony, promising they would make their contributions to the event, participate in voluntary work and promote an eco-friendly way of life in the city.

“I think the Universiade is not just a sports event for university students. It is an opportunity for us to present and improve ourselves, making the city a more civilized and eco-friendly international metropolis,” Lin Yuyang, one of the students, said.

The Shenzhen Univesiade will be held in August.
