THE city’s new underground landscape-— an underground commercial road in the Liaoning Road commercial area will open in May. Construction has been finished and facilities have been installed.

    The subterranean project was carried out under Jimo Road, Deping Road and Liaoning Road. There are two more phases of construction to complete.

    The first phase with the total length of 1,000 meters connects Liaoning Road, Shanghai Road and Deping Road. Total investment of the first phase was 280 million yuan (US$42.7m) and it will be built into an underground complex with commercial venues, shopping centers, tourist attractions and entertainment parlors.

    As a passageway for those who travel on foot, the road can also divert pedestrians on Jimo Road and Taishan Road to ease traffic congestions in the neighboring area.

    There will be 10 entrances and exits, with elevators being installed to make it more convenient for the elderly and children. Meanwhile, an underground parking lot will be built this year, offering more than 400 parking spaces to drivers.

    The second phase with the total length of 500 meters will connect Liaoning Road and the Metro exit on Taishan Road.
