City starts ‘digital ocean’ project
    2011-03-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A PROJECT to build a “digital ocean” will start this year to promote a bluer economy in Qingdao.

The city will increase the use of maritime zones, building four marine economic zones such as “Dongjiakou Harbor Area Industrial Zone.”

It also established a law enforcement system to ensure the progress of key marital projects and develop a “digital ocean” information platform using network information technology to monitor environment and disasters.

It will also build an ocean pollution control and prevention system to protect the coastal environment. Measures to curb pollutant emission will be taken.

More than 20 new technological developments in the fishery industry will be promoted and 90 percent of the city’s aquatic products will meet the qualifications of high-end products.

Officials from the city’s fishery department said the key for this year’s “digital ocean” project will be building a regional information exchange and service center and an aquatic product and marine resources database.
