Competitors at the third annual Shenzhen Ultimate Frisbee tournament in Nanshan District on Sunday. WITH the 26th Summer Universiade just a few months away, Shenzhen is preparing to make athletes from around the world feel at home during their stay in Shenzhen. But expats living and working in the city, especially those who love sport, have already had ample opportunities to meet like-minded locals and enjoy Shenzhen’s taste for athletics. Every week, expats are competing in a variety of sporting events. Over the weekend, the Shenzhen Ultimate Frisbee Society finished the third annual Shenzhen Ultimate Frisbee tournament in Nanshan District. Eighty-four members competed in seven teams. Formed in 2006, the society has more than 500 members; half are expats. The training sessions are held every weekend. The society also had a team at the third China Ultimate Frisbee tournament in 2009 and finished in the top eight. Anthony Prempeh, from Ghana, who is more commonly known by his Chinese name “Lei Feng,” plays soccer every week. He and scores of expats from countries including the United States, Denmark and South Korea compete at the playground opposite Lianhua Hill Park on Monday and Wednesday evenings. (SD-Agencies)
