A RIVER cleaning project in Qingdao has been selected as a model project in environmental improvement in Shandong Province.

    The largest water system in Qingdao, the Licun River used to be notorious for its dirty environment. However, after more than two years of cleaning and wetland building, the environment of the upper reaches of the river has largely improved.

    The Licang District Government started the project along a 4-kilometer river section in January 2009.
