A TOTAL of 383 new tourist attractions have been discovered since May last year, all in areas most in need of development. At present, there are 2,116 tourist attractions in the city, including cultural venues, natural scenes and landscapes of horticultural interest, according to an investigation by the city’s tourism department. About 77 percent are architecture and facilities. In 2010, a library of the well-known scholar Zheng Xuan from the Han Dynasty was found in Aishan Mountain, a geological park with a volcanic landform. The 6-square-meter room was chiseled from a rock. Meanwhile, many industrial relics, ancient buildings and special residential houses were also found in the investigation and urged to be repaired. Some key attractions in Laoshan Mountain are also required to be protected and developed, such as the Taoist Taiqing Palace and Yuqing Palace, and the Buddhist Huayan Temple. Other temples in the mountain will be repaired and restored over the coming years. (Wang Yuanyuan, Zhang Ying) |
