German scholar donates historical files
    2011-03-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A GERMAN scholar Ehrilich donated more than 100 documents from his collection to the city’s archive department March 21, including maps of the German concession from 1900, address books in the German concession from 1907 and many old photos.

“I donated three files last year and it was too little, so I went back home and brought more documents from my collections for donation this time,” he said.

The brother of Ehrilich’s grandfather served in the army in Qingdao between 1899 and 1901 and Ehrilich has been collecting artefacts and documents related to Qingdao during that period since he was 10.

“We even have a Qingdao association in Germany, specializing in researching streets and architecture in Qingdao. We are also working on publishing a book about the city’s history, introducing the city to more people in Germany,” he said.
