Shenzhen junior English journalists write about their memorable interviewing experience
    2011-03-30  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    Visiting a Metro station

    孔美晴 北环中学初二(2)班

On March 13, one team of junior English reporters went to the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center Station and interviewed the staff members from the Communications Department of Shenzhen Metro.

They told us that all lines of the Shenzhen Metro will be open and put into trial before the Universiade. Line 1, 2 and 5 are already running in the city. And people can also take Line 4 to Hong Kong in the near future.

Besides, we were informed that volunteers in Metro stations are needed for the coming Universiade, including students like us. Lastly, we were given a guided tour of the station by staff.

Since the Check & Correct campaign has been in full swing, we junior reporters have surprisingly found few mistakes in both English and Chinese signs in the station. We should “start here” and take initiative to check and correct more language mistakes in the public for a better Universiade and a better Shenzhen.

    We are ready

On March 12, the opening ceremony of “Shenzhen Speaks Foreign Languages” campaign was held on Binhai Square of Bao’an District. Tang Lixia, director of the Organizing Committee Office of the “Shenzhen Speaks Foreign Languages” campaign, and some school leaders and teachers attended the ceremony.

We junior English reporters interviewed some foreign students. They shared with us their expectations and best wishes for the coming Universiade. In the mean time, we invited them to join in the Check & Correct campaign.

As the slogan of Shenzhen Universiade is “Start Here,” we will start here to make contributions to make a better Shenzhen. Bao’an is smiling to the world. We are ready for the Universiade!

    Amazing yacht trip

    祝阳 育才三中八年级(8)班

On March 13, we junior English reporters went to Shekou Ferry Terminal and embarked on a yacht. The yacht was splendid and was equipped with bars and some playrooms.

We had an interview with Wayne Wong, deputy general manager of Shenzhen Oriental Sailing Yacht Co., Ltd. With four months away from the Universiade, the “Shenzhen Speaks Foreign Languages” campaign is in full swing. I asked Mr. Wong: “Are there any activities held for the Universiade on the yacht?”

“A new project for people to watch some Universiade events on the sea will be put into trial during the Universiade,” replied Wong. “At that time, tourists may enjoy the beauty and fun of coastal city by experiencing an alternative kind of voyage.”

After being in the water for two hours, our yacht sailed back for the port. What a wonderful trip!
