QINGDAO has laid down detailed implementation plans for its pilot program to develop the marine economy. The plans covered marine resource exploration, modern marine industrial system establishment, eco-environmental protection, marine science education, sea and land management, opening-up as well as financing industry development. In the field of marine resource exploration, Qingdao will accelerate the construction of projects like a national deep sea base and an offshore oil and gas processing base. Marine resource recycling enterprises and industrial parks will be constructed. Qingdao will build research and development centers, ocean equipment manufacturing bases, and international logistic centers to establish a modern ocean industrial system. In protecting the eco-environment, Qingdao will step up its efforts to harness seawater and prevent floods. The city also aims to become a cluster of marine professionals in northeast Asia. The cooperation with Germany, Japan and South Korea is expected to be pushed while transit operations are developed. A marine economic zone in the west coast of Qingdao will be planned and constructed while continuing innovation in comprehensive ocean management.
