Ocean equipment manufacturing makes progress
    2011-04-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE ocean equipment manufacturing in Qingdao has made significant progress during the past 10 years.

Since 2004, Qingdao has attracted several multi-national companies and big projects to promote the development of the ocean equipment manufacturing industry, such as a giant ship building and repairing base in cooperation with China Shipbuilding Industry Corp. Since then, companies such as Sinopec and McDermott in the United States have all invested in Qingdao to promote the ocean equipment industry.

Statistics show that more than 70 percent of the city's ocean equipment industrial projects are in leading places in the country. In 2010, the city's ship and ocean engineering industry output reached 35 billion yuan, 50 percent higher than the previous year.

Recently, the industry has also made new accomplishments such as making China one of the few countries in the world which can produce certain key parts such as crankshaft for big ships.
