 QINGDAO has aimed at achieving a 1-trillion-yuan GDP by 2015, part of its ambitious plan for development in the next five years. The city strives to reach an annual growth rate of 11 percent in the GDP in the coming five years and the per capita GDP is expected to stand at 100,000 yuan by 2015, according to the development plan. An industrial structure featuring dominant service industries will be formed while the city eyes 100 billion yuan in local fiscal revenue. In addition, the city aims to increase the number of containers at its ports to 18 million TEUs and the traveler handling capacity of its airports to 18 million. The construction of a new airport will start within the next five years. Pollutant discharge is expected to be reduced in the next five years while the city’s main rivers will see an improvement in water quality. Material and cultural improvements will also be made to the lives of ordinary people. The average disposable income for urban people and average net income for rural people is expected to increase at an annual rate of more than 11 percent.
